In 2018 visual artist Ief Spincemaille created the artwork ‘Rope’: a rope of 60 meters in length and 30 cm in diameter. Rope has been made disproportionately large and has therefore lost its function. Spincemaille travels around the world with Rope to give it new meaning.
Besides creating a great artwork, Spincemaille reinvented seating without realizing it. Ropes of 12 and 6 meters are currently being used by cities, companies and private customers, to create temporary social spaces, to play and to knot shapes and encounters. And with a mobile braiding workshop, Rope can be braided in-situ with or without the help of the local community or customer. Rope, just as many of the Ateliers other works, is a social sculpture: a medium which brings imagination and people together. Do something with Rope!

Rope blogs about it’s experiences, telling a tale about the places where it has been. These stories result in a journal of the places Rope has visited.
